Double Sided Kapton Tape

Our matte black polyimide tape features a high-temperature resistant silicone adhesive and a durable black polyimide film backing. It delivers excellent electrical insulation, chemical resistance, and thermal stability up to 260 °C .

Description

Our double-sided Kapton tape is built from a thin, premium polyimide film coated on both sides with silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive and supplied with a single or double-sided fluorinated PET release liner. The film offers industry-leading thermal stability, low thermal expansion, outstanding dielectric strength and excellent chemical resistance; the silicone adhesive provides reliable adhesion across a very wide temperature range while usually removing cleanly without sticky residue. Typical tape thickness (excluding release liner) ranges from ~0.10 mm to 0.20 mm depending on film gauge and adhesive build.

Construction: silicone PSA / polyimide film / silicone PSA, supplied with fluorinated PET release liner(s)

Custom widths (3–500 mm) and die-cut parts are available. Samples can be provided upon request for process validation.

Features

  • High temperature resistance: Polyimide film offers excellent thermal stability. Actual service temperature is typically limited by the silicone adhesive system; many grades are rated up to 260 °C, with short-term peaks possible depending on adhesive formulation and dwell time. Please refer to the specific SKU datasheet and validate under your process profile.
  • Excellent electrical insulation: polyimide backing provides high dielectric strength and stable electrical properties under thermal cycling.
  • Silicone adhesive — heat & solvent resistant: silicone-based PSAs keep adhesion at high temperatures and usually remove cleanly without adhesive residue on smooth surfaces.
  • Mechanical durability: strong tensile strength, tear resistance and dimensional stability for masking and protection applications.
  • Chemical and radiation resistance: stable vs. many solvents, acids/alkalis and radiation environments — suitable for aerospace and harsh-process uses.
  • Custom widths & formats: commonly supplied in widths from a few mm up to 500 mm, in rolls or die-cut parts; total thickness and liner options are customizable to suit assembly tooling and die-cutting. (Samples and custom tooling offered.)
  • Clean peel / no tin penetration in soldering: engineered for wave/reflow masking and protection without contamination of plated surfaces when removed per process guidelines.
  • Stable liner release for converting: Supplied with fluorinated PET release liner(s) designed for consistent release force, helping reduce adhesive transfer during high-speed die-cutting, slitting, and manual assembly.

FAQS

Q1: What maximum temperature can double-sided Kapton tape tolerate?
A: Typically up to 260 °C for continuous use, with short-term peaks possible depending on adhesive grade and dwell time. Always confirm the specific SKU and validate under your process conditions.

Q2: Will the tape leave adhesive residue or damage the substrate?
A: Silicone adhesives are designed for clean removal with minimal residue on smooth, clean surfaces when removed within the recommended temperature/time window. Performance depends on substrate, temperature, and peel conditions — testing with samples is recommended.

Q3: Can Kapton tape be used in chemically aggressive environments?
A: Standard Kapton tape resists many solvents and chemicals, but strong acids, bases, or battery electrolytes may affect adhesives/liners. Specify chemical exposure and request grade verification or testing.

Q4: What sizes and formats are available?
A: Available in widths from a few mm up to 500 mm, standard roll length ~33 m, and tape thicknesses from 0.10 mm to 0.20 mm (excluding liner).

Q5: Can I request samples or small trial quantities before bulk orders?
A: Yes. Samples and small trial quantities are available for evaluation and process validation. Sample availability, format, and shipping terms depend on the requested specification and destination — please contact us with your application details.
